Sustainable design was and still is a key factor when it comes to innovation within product and service fields. However there is still much to do and this 30 year old commandment is a reminder of that this should be a never ending strive.
Will go into detail regarding Sustainablity in a nearby post.
The Design Series: Commandment #6
Pretty straight forward, stay true to your offering!
The Design Series: Commandment #5
Design with confidence letting your product or service become part of the user/customers owen world. Basically make you design adapt the life of the customer transforming into a own expression.
How do you do that, by doing your homework in the research phase. Everyone benefits through that.
The Design Series: Commandment #4
Keep your design close to your products or service, taking on to wide endeavors often leave you with a cluttered impression and customers might pass up on it.
The Design Series: Commandment #3
Aesthetics is closely linked to good products and the value of it has not decreased rather the opposite. People have become less tolerant to mass consumption and therefore a key asset it so shape your products and services to fit within peoples everyday life. Mindset: “I choose this product due to its very nature of fitting into my everyday life and more, making it more aesthetic. I expresses my character”
Summary: Aim for a aesthetical layer of all your products or services. Big or small, design them to enhance and embrace your consumers.
The Design Series: Commandment #2
Bottomline, design adds and extra dimension and purpose of any given product. This is also fully traducible applying into contemporary design thinking.
The Design Series: Commandment #1
This first commandment is valid even today, innovation has been and will be one of the major factors within design alongside technology. However it has evolved into other fields that we’re going to look into later on in this series.
The Design Series: Design Commandments by Dieter Rams
Design, what is it?
Following the previous post I felt inspired to go head on within this field. Mainly because it is my profession and I have not dealt with this subject in other ways than in relation to clients of mine.
Basically this is the best start possible. Starting out defining what is good design. Once stated by BRAUN lead designer and living icon Dieter Rams back in the early 1980’s due to lack of confidence within the design field.
“an impenetrable confusion of forms, colours and noises.”
He then made a list of what would later be recognized as the 10 design commandments.
I will start out stating and presenting them all from 1-10 with a small comment to each and everyone of them stating their topical essence even today. Then move into the future field and ways of working with design.

A great summarize of Design.
This is basically all you need to get you going into the field of Design. The possibilities and to some extent its limitations (however very few).
I would also recommend you to hand this over to your clients or if your work within a larger corporations with a longing of working with design.

Design Lecture @ Hyper Island
Short but exciting week fading into a happy easter.
Just some reflections on the passed week.
My lecture @ Hyper Island had the title: “Design - Past - Trip - Future.”
Basically the underlying plot was to create a three step storytelling saga of design and its close ties to the fundament of the Brand. To feel confident working with cutting edge brands in the future you will need to know the past, starting with the fundamental needs, I also added a character to the plot: “Steven - The Key Accountant Manager” as the antagonist for the story.
"THE PAST" - need to know parts, typo, color, imagery and what role that has in the the process. Ending in a mini workshop with 4 different assignments corresponding to: Typography, Color and Imagery.
"THE TRIP" - This section basically deals with the constant voyage that creative people do, where are our sources of inspiration, what should you focus on, how to a approach inspiration and what can creatives exchange from that. Historic landmarks and future sources. Lecture followed by mini workshop with 4 assignments corresponding to: Art, Architecture, Fashion, Music and more.
"THE FUTURE" - This section dealt with the future of design. Explanation of the role of design in the future and alongside with the connection with the brand within the Brand Driven Innovation. I also focused on the Design Process and emphasized its importance as a tool in their roles as “techy creative management pros.”
Two days of inspiring lectures and talented students, will be fun to follow the coming months of creative ideas towards assignment presentations.
I am pleased to announce that NEU have been asked by Hyper Island “World leading life-long learning for professionals & talent all around the globe.” to be in charge of lecturing and mentorship within the Design field. Will update the blog with keynotes and insights from these lectures during the spring.
Brand Lectures
I am are pleased and honored to announce that I will continue lecturing on branding at Nyföretagarcentrum (New Business Centre ((ENG)) this spring.
I am especially excited about this since the companies involved are in their start-up face so there are lots of exciting services, products and foremost brands to design and build.
Human Terrain - New times, new solutions
One should never underestimate creative problem solving. Especially when combined with business strategy. And then you lift your eyes slightly so there are many more problems than the purely communicative and strategic branding. For example, how to create jobs in areas of conflict, increasing trade between businesses in the area and attract foreign direct investment in the country (FDI). At the same time.
Human Terrain is created to assist people in emerging markets by improving the soil for Companies. Companies committed to building brand for real, they create trust and thus have influence. Gain is a two way road.
This is where I will increase more and more of my daily commitment.
